The free edition contains no license client, so nothing limits where you install it, and it carries every feature a license does. Updates arrive in your dashboard on both editions. A license adds email support and a site allowance of up to 127 activations. Bug reports, pre-sales and billing questions are always free, whichever edition you run, and free-edition questions get answered when we can.
What it costs to keep your backups running
Nothing. Both backup plugins are free, they hold no license client, and there is no plan to lapse. They do not deactivate, nag, or delete anything.
Every backup already in your Google Drive or OneDrive stays there. Those files are yours, in your own cloud account. We never held them and we cannot reach them.
Full restore keeps working forever. You will never need a license to get your own site back.
You also keep the email the plugin sends after every backup attempt, success or failure, at whichever address you set. That has never been a paid feature and it never will be.
Bodholdt Backup Pro is a separate paid companion. If its license ends, its Slack and Discord delivery and its scheduled digest stop, and your backups, your restores and that email carry on exactly as before.

Every plugin is GPL v2 or later. If Bodholdt Labs disappeared tomorrow, you keep the code and the right to run and modify it.
